- It is also known as POOR FLOW. It appears as the irregular surface of a sprayed paint film resembling the skin of an orange. The defect is due to the failure of the film to flow out to a level surface. Cause of this defect ca be:
- Too thick paint film
- Poor quality thinner
- Insufficiently thinned paint
-Improper atomization caused by wrong handling or setting of spray gun.
PREVENTION AND RECTIFICATION:
- Choose correct thinner and thin according to directions.
- Use suitable gun set up.
- Do not fan air over surface as this causes surface drying without flow.
To remove orange peel effect, buff with a suitable compound when thoroughly dry. In
extreme cases fine sand down to a smooth surface and rebuff or refinish, using a grade
of thinner suitable for the spraying conditions.
